Domaine Ventoura

Auguste planted the first vine in 1953. Grandson Thomas now makes 40,000 bottles of Chablis from it.

This estate is run by father Claude and son Thomas Ventoura. Grandfather Auguste Ventoura planted the first Chardonnay vines in 1953, and his son Claude worked hard to grow the estate to the 11 hectares the family owns today. Thomas, the grandson, is the independent-minded, contemporary winemaker who strives for absolute perfection in making pure wines. He makes Petit Chablis, Chablis and Premier Cru Chablis. This relatively small family estate produces around 40,000 bottles a year.

The wines of Chablis stand out for their freshness and minerality. The soil of Chablis is 150 million years old, formed from the remains of oyster shells, clay and limestone, and gives the wine its distinctive Chablis character. This soil is also known as Kimmeridgian. The climate is semi-continental, and given the microclimate at Domaine Ventoura (dry, with cool nights), winemaker and owner Thomas Ventoura achieves Chablis of the highest level.
