Chateau Maris, run by Robert Eden, has stood out for years for its quality combined with a remarkably sustainable way of working. Chateau Maris is certified Organic, Demeter and B Corp. This is to protect biodiversity and to counter the warming of the planet. Thanks to the clean soil, this wine reaches the top level.
The plots comprise 4 fields in the first Cru of the Languedoc: La Livinière. Two fields face south and two face south-west. Planted in 1986 and 2016. 30% of the soils consist of granular marly sandstone and limestone, which provides drainage. 40% consists of terraced vineyards with stony soil. 30% consists of calcareous marl. Perfect soils for Syrah!
Natural fertilisation in line with the Biodynamic Standards, using cow manure and plant species sown to keep the soil healthy, including black oats and vetch. After planting, the cover is mown and the soil is fertilised with those same plants.
