Bodegas Navarro

In Montilla since 1830 and still a family estate. The grapes dry to raisins on the vine.

Bodegas Navarro was founded in 1830 by José Antonio Navarro. To this day, Bodegas Navarro is still a family business. The house excelled at making dessert wines from the famous Pedro Ximénez (PX) grape. Knowledge and skill in dessert wine have been gathered over generations to keep improving the wines. Bodegas Navarro has no wish to become the biggest winery, but to be the best. With that vision in mind, perfection is pursued every year, from the pruning to the choice of cooper (barrel maker).

The founder, José Antonio Navarro, specialised in making wines to the specifications of the region (DO Montilla-Moriles). Ancient writings record that these wines were already being drunk in 800 BC. This house has specialised for decades in making the wood-aged dessert wine P.X. Centuries-old traditions are upheld here.

One example of a centuries-old tradition is ageing in the Solera system.
