Grandson Giovanni has since taken over the winery from grandfather Giovanni. Primitivo on the clay soil near Bari.
The present Di Gioia family took over the old estate from grandfather Giovanni in 1998, to make good old-fashioned wines with respect for tradition. Giovanni had already been making beautiful red wines from the Primitivo grape for several decades. The dry microclimate of the Bari area and the clay soil make it possible to produce very pure wines. After all, the drier the climate, the less the grapes are affected by mould. The current generation of the Di Gioia family, led by yet another Giovanni, uses modern vinification techniques with temperature control and oxygen control, which makes this wine impeccably pure.
