Adega Mesão Frio
A cooperative since 1950, the members are co-owners. Cork, cap, bottle and label are all recycled here.

Adega Cooperativa de Mesão Frio (ACMF) was founded in 1950 and, thanks to its eye for quality, has grown into one of the most important cooperatives in the Douro. A select group of Douro growers are members of the cooperative. The members oversee the harvest of high-quality grapes and then sell them to the cooperative they belong to. All members are co-owners and take decisions together.
They pay close attention to sustainability, including the recycling of every by-product, from grape growing right through to the winemaking process. Pruning waste is composted and recycled, and the corks, screw caps, bottles and labels are made from recycled materials too. In doing so they not only work to the new PPWR regulation but clearly go a step further. As PPWR requires, there are no heavy metals or microplastics in their bottles, corks and screw caps, but they are also working towards full recycling to keep waste to an absolute minimum.
